What is Art Therapy?
Art therapy is for everyone — no artistic skills are needed. What matters most is your willingness to engage with the materials. It can be especially helpful for people who find it difficult to talk about their emotions.
Art therapy is not an art class; the focus is on the process of creating rather than the finished artwork. In art therapy, creative expression is used alongside conversation with a qualified, registered art psychotherapist
Sessions typically take place in a private, safe, non-judgmental space with a range of art materials available.
The art therapist will be there to support you, whether you prefer to talk while making art or focus quietly on your creative process. The therapist may observe or gently guide the session, depending on your needs.

About Me
My name is Rachel, and I am an Art Psychotherapist based in Colchester, Essex. I have an MA in Art Psychotherapy from Goldsmiths College, University of London.
I am registered with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC) and a British Association of Art Therapists (BAAT) member. I also hold an Enhanced DBS and Level 3 First Aid certificate.
I practise using a non-directive psychodynamic approach, which means you are free to use the materials in your own way. This method encourages exploration of how past experiences may influence your current thoughts, feelings, and behaviours.
Through this process, we can build trust, self-awareness, and help you better understand your emotions and behaviours.
I have experience of working with both children and adults in various settings including schools, hospital and even outside in the woods!
I have worked with clients with numerous issues including
• Anger
• Attachment issues
• Anxiety & Depression
• ADHD, Autism, Neurodiversity
• Low self esteem & confidence
• Family separation
• ODD & PDA
• Domestic violence & sexual abuse
• Psychosis
